Tai Chien Dojo is an affiliated member of C&S Self Defense Association under Senior Grandmaster Peter M. Rose, 9th Degree Black Belt. The style taught at Tai Chien Dojo is called Shudokan karate. Shudokan has been handed down from Master to student establishing a lineage dating back to the Shaolin Temple in China.
The purpose of Tai Chien Dojo is to promote the martial arts in a calm, safe and enjoyable environment of right living and right thinking. The values associated with Tai Chien Dojo are: family atmosphere, honesty, discipline, and the Code of Ethics of a Martial Arts Student.
Tai Chien Dojo teaches the student flexibility, coordination, self-defense, and, most importantly, self-awareness. The way we teach the martial arts is like a great living tree; each leaf gains it’s nourishment (knowledge) from the roots. A strong foundation is essential for the student to grow within his or her art. In order to study a martial art seriously, you must believe that there is nothing more important in the world than the understanding of “you.” If you do not believe in yourself, you cannot expect others to.
At Tai Chien Dojo, we begin by teaching the student a very hard form of martial art. This is done because physical power plays a major role in learning self-defense quickly. After the student passes through the self-defense stage, it is time to begin the true study of our art, which is embodied in meditation and an emphasis on soft form.
Our philosophy “in a nutshell” is to develop our body so that in the end we may develop our mind - ourselves. What good does it do to be able to punch and kick at the age of seventy and yet not really know yourself? We must decide now what is important to us. We must not place ourselves in the postion of the individual who looks back on his life and is full of regrets. Now is the time for you to begin your journey of self-discovery.
